ขั้นตอนการประคบ

- นำลูกประคบที่นึ่งจนร้อนมาทดสอบความร้อน โดยแตะที่ท้องแขนหรือท้องหลังมือก่อนนำไปประคบ
- ในการประคบต้องทำด้วยความรวดเร็วในขณะที่ลูกประคบกำลังร้อน เมื่อลูกประคบเย็นลงจึงวางลูกประคบไว้ได้นานขึ้น
- เมื่อลูกประคบคลายความร้อน จึงเปลี่ยนลูกประคบอีกลูกหนึ่งแทน
ข้อควรระวังในการประคบ
- ห้ามใช้ลูกประคบที่ร้อนเกินไป โดยเฉพาะกับบริเวณผิวหนังอ่อนๆ หรือบริเวณที่เป็นแผลมาก่อน ถ้าจำเป็นต้องประคบควรมีผ้ารองหรือรอจนกว่าลูกประคบจะคลายความร้อนลง
- ควรระวังเป็นพิเศษในผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวาน อัมพาต เด็ก และผู้สูงอายุ เนื่องจากกลุ่มบุคคลดังกล่าวมีการตอบสนองความรู้สึกร้อนช้า อาจทำให้ผิวหนังพองได้ ถ้าจำเป็นต้องประคลให้ใช้ลูกประคบอุ่นๆ
- ไม่ควรใช้ลูกประคบกรณีที่มีการอักเสบใน 24 ชั่วโมงแรก เพราะอาจทำให้การอักเสบมากขึ้น ควรประคบด้วยความเย็นก่อน
- หลังจากประคบสมุนไพรแล้ว ไม่ควรอาบน้ำทันที เพราะจะไปชะล้างตัวยาออกจากผิวหนัง และร่างกายอาจปรับตัวไม่ทัน
การเก็บรักษาลูกประคบ
ลูกประคบสามารถใช้ได้นาน 3-5 วัน (กรณีใช้คนเดียว) ควรเก็บไว้ในตู้เย็น จะทำให้เก็บได้นานขึ้น ถ้าลูกประคบที่ใช้ไม่มีสีเหลือง (จากไพลและขมิ้น) ทำให้คุณภาพตัวยาลดลง การใช้จะไม่ได้ผล ควรเปลี่ยนใหม่
